Hartsville Sues to Recover Planned Hotel Property

A hotel company’s plans to build a new hotel in downtown Hartsville are apparently dead, and the city of Hartsville plans to take legal action to regain the title to the downtown property in the Vista area where the hotel and a restaurant were to have been built.

A lawsuit against D.J. Desai and Balaji II LLC, the company of which Desai is president, will be filed next week, city officials said.

The lawsuit will seek recovery of property — a little more than 2.9 acres — monetary damages and injunctive relief related to the defendants’ breach of promises made to the city under a contract between the city and the defendants, including a promise to build a Hampton Inn & Suites on the site by mid 2010, according to a notice of pending litigation filed by the city with the 4th Circuit Common Pleas Court in Darlington.

The Landing at Lake Robinson Development Under Way

June 30, 2008

By Candace Jarrett – Morning News Reporter

Kevin Jones and his team at SITUS Properties are in the process of developing The Landing at Lake Robinson, a proposed gated community near Lake Robinson located just outside of Hartsville.

“It will be gated, and it’s going to be great,” he said. “There’s 250 acres available and there are 262 home sites and we’re releasing 62 home sites this weekend.”

The initial Phase I-A released about 30 lots, which primarily were made available to what Jones call the development’s preferred builders and their customers who showed an early interest in the project. The grand opening this weekend is considered the unveiling of Phase I.

All of the proposed amenities include boat docks, clubhouses, tennis courts, a swimming pool, full boating, ponds and nature trails along the lakefront area geared at creating a waterfront community.

“All lakes in South Carolina are owned by energy companies,” Jones said. “We just have to get easements to break into the lakefront property (from Progress Energy), and we’ve done that. We have waterfront rights for our docks on the south property, and we’re working out the logistics for the rest of the property at this time.”
