Plans for 3,500-acre resort community put on hold until market improves

– The State

An economic recession has stalled plans for a resort-style community on 3,500 acres on Lake Wateree in Kershaw County, developers said Monday.

Liberty Hill Farms, which called for 100 homes on 16- to 50-acre lots and a 1,200-acre conservation area, will not be developed until market conditions improve, said Joy Steverson, spokesperson for developer Greenwood Communities and Resorts.

“This market is just not very conducive to any new projects at this time,” she said. “We’re very bullish on the long-term outlook there.”

Greenwood started marketing the property nearly two years ago, introducing a plan that would bring in family compounds at which people could live or vacation with horses, boating and hiking in the conservation area.
