BJ’s Wholesale Club Rezoning Approved by Richland County

BJ Wholesale Club is a step closer to opening a location in northeast Richland County. The county’s planning commission approved a zoning change Monday to allow the membership-only retail store to build a new location at the corner of Two Notch Road and the Sparkleberry Lane Extension.

The site originally was zoned as a heavy industrial space. The change to general commercial zoning means BJ Wholesale Club and other consumer goods retailers can occupy the space.

Officials with BJ’s said the store is expected to be 80,000 square feet and will accommodate a 60-space parking lot. The store likely will hire around 125 employees.

Developers told the commission that additional parcels on the site will be available to other businesses.
