South Carolina Foreclosures Down 29%

South Carolina was one of 39 states that recorded an annual decrease in foreclosure activity in May, but it still ranked No. 10 in the country for most foreclosures. About 2,500 foreclosure filings were reported in the Palmetto State last month, or one in every 851 homes, which is 28.94% lower than May 2013, RealtyTrac said.

Nationwide, there was a 26% decrease in foreclosure filings across the United States compared with May 2013. Foreclosure filings — default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions — were reported on 109,824 properties, according to a U.S. Foreclosure Market Report from RealtyTrac.

The housing data company said May’s foreclosures were at the lowest level since December 2006 and that one in every 1,199 U.S. homes was in foreclosure.
