Schottenstein Looking to Add 700 Apartments in Carolinas

By

Columbus, Ohio-based Schottenstein Real Estate Group is targeting the Charlotte region for apartment development.

Schottenstein Vice President Brian Schottenstein told me the multifamily developer has three sites under consideration, including in the Charlotte area and across the South Carolina border, which call for a combined 700 units. All are in the planning and zoning phase.

“We’d like to do them all,” Schottenstein told me, noting the 7 percent annual job growth in that region. “It’s a great market that’s underserved.”

Those projects, whose precise locations were not divulged, could get started in 2015.

Growth has a way of attracting Columbus developers to the Carolinas. For example, Columbus-based medical office and retail developer Equity Inc. has a $135 million health-care campus underway in Summerville, S.C.
