Dual-branded Hotel Planned for Charlotte’s EpiCentre

Construction on a 20-story hotel tower at the EpiCentre is slated to begin in early 2015. McKibbon Hotel Management will work with real estate firms Vision Ventures and Mount Vernon Asset Management to build a dual-brand roughly 200,000-square-foot-hotel venture. The hotel project will feature an upscale 182-room AC Hotel and a 120-room Residence Inn. Both are Marriott International brands.

“It will be a dynamic fit for the EpiCentre,” says Paul Picarazzi, principal of Vision Ventures. Vision and Mount Vernon have owned and operated the EpiCentre since 2010. Those firms recently sold the uptown Charlotte property to Los Angeles-based CIM Group for $130.5 million.

AC Hotel caters to what it describes as “cosmopolitan, urban travelers” in a more contemporary setting. “It felt like the right fit,” Picarazzi says. “There’s definitely a market need.”

The Charlotte location will be among the first AC Hotels to be built in the United States — the brand originated in Europe in 1998. Others are planned in Kansas City, New Orleans, New York City and Miami.
