Myrtle Beach’s Carolina Forest Thriving

By

Carolina Forest is a thriving community in Horry County that has a lot of soul, but one could argue it’s still trying to find its identity. The census shows Carolina Forest’s population went from around 3,400 residents in 2000 to 21,000 in 2010.

And it’s an area where residents in the cluster of developments and gated communities enjoy relative peace and quiet, high-performing schools and a large community church and recreation center that developers purposefully put in the “heart” of what once was a huge pine forest.

But what’s next for this community flourishing between the beach and the county seat? a question that’s still to be answered.

The 2010 Knight Soul of the Community survey asked residents of Horry County their level of attachment to communities by having them focus on topics lincluding social offerings, education and safety. Similar research conducted by Gallup in 26 other communities over the past few years shows a corollary between residents’ pride in their community to the strength of the economy.
