Developer Interested in Columbia Blowfish Stadium?

An Olympia homeowner and officials with the city of Columbia acknowledge being approached by a developer looking to assemble a large tract for a project along Assembly Street. City manager Steve Gantt said the city would consider selling its baseball stadium on Assembly Street, for the past six seasons home to the Columbia Blowfish.

Developing the woodsy tract that insulates the historic Olympia mill village from the nearby industrial corridor of Assembly would continue the march of student-related construction toward USC’s football stadium.

Fred Delk, with the Columbia Development Corp., an arm of city government, said Monday assembling the property — some of it in Columbia, some in Richland County — and addressing a floodplain through the area that would be “pretty complex.”
