Columbia Area Home Sales Spike 10 Percent in August

Real estate could be headed for a rebound in Columbia.

Midlands home sales made a double-digit comeback in August — jumping 10 percent compared to the same month a year ago as buyers snapped up discounted homes. That jump stopped a more than year-long slide in monthly sales that started as a federal tax credit for first-time buyers came to an end in mid-2010.

“It has taken a little bounce up lately, and it feels good to see that,” said longtime Columbia-area real estate agent Jay Graham. “We have our challenges ahead of us, but I’m thankful to have those closings.”
