Charleston Experiences Most Active Residential Month in a Year

Charleston’s real estate market was more active in August than in any other month in 2011, according to the latest numbers from the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors.

The Realtors association reported that 904 homes sold at a median price of $185,000 in August, marking the most active month of sales and second-highest median price recorded so far this year.

In August 2010, 681 homes sold at a median price of $199,055, 7% higher than this year. Compared with the same month last year, 33% more sales closed in August than in August of 2010, CTAR reported.

“Every month, we take another small step in the right direction,” association President Rob Woodul said. “Our market remains fragile, but sales volume has increased steadily throughout the year. When we look at year-to-date figures, sales volume is outpacing last year by 3%. The regionwide median sale price is 4% lower, year-to-date.”
