A New Industrial Park for Columbia?

At least three businesses would bring about 200 jobs into Columbia under a plan to build an industrial park on the city’s southern edge, political and business leaders said Wednesday.

City Council agreed tentatively this week to spend $1.2 million to build roads and extend water and sewer service to the proposed park on 132 acres off Shop Road near the I-77 interchange.

The jobs estimates came from Mayor Steve Benjamin and Councilman Daniel Rickenmann, but neither would identify the prospects slated for the Shop Grove Commerce Park. They did say the second prospect would be almost twice as large as the first in terms of square footage.
