The Carolinas market is a study in a region’s sensitivity to entry-level tax credit stimulus. Performance, as reflected in Raymond James’ latest regional housing update for the Carolinas shows, as one of our industry friends puts it, the excrement hitting the ventilation system.

Still, consider this.

This is a market that is working on its own two feet after 15 months of government adrenaline. It’s going to take a while to normal up. Among home builders we talk with, many capitulated the last few months of 2010, given the political and financial vagaries that stalked home buyers and builders into the latter part of the year. By the same token, they’re all gung-ho about Spring 2011, come hell or highwater.
