Brown Mackie College is doubling its space in downtown Greenville as enrollment continues to jump.

The location, which opened in the fall of 2009, has been one of the best received among the system’s 25 campuses in 14 states. Brown Mackie enrolled 180 students in Greenville in its inaugural semester, a record for the Cincinnati-based institution and about 140 more students than it expected for its first class.

The college is enrolling an additional 50 to 100 students each month, on top of the 700 it already serves, said Karen Burgess, campus president.

“There really is not an enrollment maximum,” Burgess said. “As we continue to grow, we’ll continue to acquire additional space as needed.”

On Nov. 1, the campus will nearly double its space to 47,000 square feet at Two Liberty Square, 75 Beattie Place. Most of the extra room will house classrooms, though some faculty offices will be added too. Brown Mackie employs around 50 people, including administrative staff and full-time and adjunct professors, Burgess said.
