Greenville area home sales dropped 17% in July but remain ahead of last year’s sales pace, according to new figures from the Greater Greenville Association of Realtors. Sales spiked earlier in the spring and summer as buyers took advantage of since-expired federal tax credits.

In July, 489 homes were sold, down 17% from the same month last year. Average price, however, increased from $174,729 to $177,551, while median price dropped slightly from $146,000 to $145,000.

For the year, 4,077 single-family, condominiums or townhouses were sold from Jan. 1 to July 30, up 9.3% from 3,730 during the same seven-month period in 2009. Average price is up 3.5% to $173,176, and median price is up 2.6% to $143,500.
