Charleston, SC Gets A Boost as Tire-Import Facility to Open; Apparel Distributor to Bring Jobs

In a double-dose of bullish developments for the local economy, a tire importer began work Wednesday on one of the region’s largest standalone warehouses while a Canadian apparel business is staffing up as it prepares to reopen a vacant distribution center.

Weather permitting, TBC Corp. plans to open the first half of its new 1.1 million-square-foot tire-import facility off Interstate 26 near Summerville by November, said Jim Markey, vice president of logistics. The second phase should be completed by early 2011, he said.
