The average occupancy rate for Charleston County hotels was 55% in November, a drop of 8.7% from the same month last year, according to monthly data from the College of Charleston’s Office of Tourism Analysis.

County hotels averaged 60% occupancy in November 2008, which was down from 66% in November 2007. Last month, county hotels sold a collective 249,289 room nights, down 11.6% from the 282,106 sold in November 2008.

The data, compiled for the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, suggest that local tourism activity continues to decline compared to recent years.
