Anderson, SC Retailers Say Sales Better Than Expected For Holiday

Anderson retailers reported solid holiday sales this year, in line with a national trend.

National data showed that shoppers spent more money this holiday season than last year, and that caused major indexes to rise during Monday stock trading. MasterCard Advisors’ SpendingPulse, a report tracking all forms of payment, said retail sales rose 3.6 percent from Nov. 1 to Dec. 24. Those sales dropped 2.3 percent the year before.

Lee Luff, president of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce, said local retailers reported modest gains in holiday sales. He said the clothing industry was very successful this year.
