Vacant Banks – Coming to a Corner Near You

A client called me yesterday and asked about possible alternative uses for branch banks. Good question…….and good timing. According to the FDIC, there are about 100,000 domestic branch banks in the US. Last month, Bank of America hinted that it might close up to 10% of its 6,000 branches, although they won’t confirm that it will happen. There are now 400 vacant banks nationwide that previously housed Washington Mutual branches. Other banks will be forced to do the same – it’s bound to happen.
What are your thoughts on possible alternative uses?
