The Charleston Housing Authority Purchases of 50-Unit King Street Property

The Charleston Housing Authority has closed on the first of several deals aimed at buying existing apartment buildings from private and nonprofit owners, which will boost the authority’s apartment stock and in some cases preserve existing low-income housing.

In the first of the deals to be completed, the authority gained ownership of a 50-unit building of efficiency apartments at 676 King St. by assuming the remaining debt on the building, which was owned by nonprofit Volunteers of America.
