Signs of Improvement Seen In Residential Real Estate

Some people in the Midlands residential real estate market have seen an uptick in customer interest and sales in recent weeks.

“It looks like we’ve turned the corner,” said Tommy Carter, broker in charge at Russell & Jeffcoat’s downtown office. He said his office has seen “a flurry of activity” in the past few weeks.

The market strength seems to be concentrated on the lower end, from about $130,000 to $200,000, Carter said. It is being especially driven by first-time buyers moving into the market, he said. A federal stimulus program providing an $8,000 tax credit for those who have not owned a home in at least three years has helped, Carter and others say.
