I-73 Progress Stalled By Insufficient Funding, Litigation

As South Carolina continues its public relations push for I-73, most other states along the proposed route are moving forward with less gusto.

In North Carolina, for example, future work on I-73 is on hold until at least 2013.
Progress has hit a roadblock in Virginia, where environmentalists have filed a lawsuit objecting to the interstate’s proposed route.

And in Michigan and Ohio, I-73 has received very little to virtually no consideration.

“I think I-73 is a higher priority [in South Carolina] than it is here,” said Jason Bond, a spokesman with the Virginia Department of Transportation.
