As the state studies how to reduce pollution in the impaired Okatie River, some residents and environmentalists are asking local officials to halt development until the state study is complete.

At tonight’s Bluffton Town Council meeting, the S.C. Coastal Conservation League plans to ask council members not to approve a proposed shopping center in western Bluffton featuring a Harris Teeter grocery store.

The 178,632-square-foot center, Buckwalter Commons, is planned for the intersection of U.S. 278 and Hampton Parkway.
