Columbia Firm Plans CBD Senior Living Facility

A Columbia development firm is planning to convert an eight-story office building on Lady Street in downtown Columbia into an independent-living facility for seniors.

Called The Dakota, the high-rise would be the first senior center to open downtown in decades.

“We went to do the research on senior housing downtown and there just wasn’t any,” said David Bryant with project developer US Development.

The $30 million project comes at a time when many downtown projects are on hold because of the struggling economy and tight credit.
