$7 Million Lexington Project Runs Into Skepticism

A $7 million project mixing stores and offices with apartments — the first in downtown Lexington — is running into complaints it is a poor fit.

Nearby residents say the plan is too large for the 1.6-acre site at Main and Church streets and would raze buildings preservationists want saved.

The three-story project would rise at a corner where stores — some nearly a century old — once sold furniture, tires and propane.
