Spartanburg’s East Side Feels Sting of Slow Economy

New developments delayed, some restaurants have closed

After a rough start to 2009, commerce on Spartanburg’s east side has continued to labor under the weight of economic pressures.

In the past month, a spate of businesses, including Captain Tony’s Blue Water Grille and Market, Roly Poly Rolled Sandwiches and the Marble Slab Creamery, have closed their doors for financial reasons.

And the forecast for the rest of the year remains clouded as two more business ventures are leaving the east side indefinitely.
