Food Lion to Open New Store in York County

Food Lion will return to Celanese Road this fall with a new store overlooking one of the busiest intersections in York County.

Nearly 60,000 cars pass through the intersection of Celanese and Mount Gallant Road each day, making it the county’s most-traveled stretch after Interstate 77. But the road has only one other grocery store — a Harris Teeter 3 miles west.

With the new store, “you’re getting access to most of the growth in Rock Hill,” said developer Dave Haggart of Charlotte-based Childress Klein Properties. “It’s a pretty big trade area today, and it’s going to be bigger in the future.”

The Food Lion, set to open in August, will anchor a $15 million shopping center called Riverview Commons. It sits on land once home to Riverview Dairy Farms, a huge operation that stretched between Celanese Road and the Catawba River.
