Myrtle Beach Tourism Slump Has Leveled Off

Looking back to the end of 2007, when the recession officially started in the United States, the hotel business was already feeling the pain. Hotel business was down 13.7 percent over the last six weeks of 2007 compared with the same period the previous year, according to a survey through the Brittain Center for Resort Tourism at Coastal Carolina University.

Business sagged throughout much of 2008, with hotels routinely seeing bookings down an average of 10 percent or more over any given six-week period.
