City leaders began assembling the pieces last year for a puzzle that will start coming together in 2009.

The city is collaborating with partners to continue work on several projects, including the new University of South Carolina Upstate George Dean Johnson Jr. College of Business and Economics in the heart of Spartanburg’s downtown and a parking garage ($11.5 million) situated in Renaissance Park that will service the school, Chapman Cultural Center, the Montgomery Building and other surrounding businesses; building a connector road from the Marriott at Renaissance Park to North Converse Street ($2 million); the Union Street Skate Park ($440,000); the new C.C. Woodson Community Center ($6 million) and new heating and air conditioning units at the Northwest Recreational Center ($750,000); continuing cleanup of the former Arkwright dump ($3.5 million); and the way-finding signage project ($500,000).
