Home Prices Dove In ’08 in Myrtle Beach Area

The tally is in: Selling prices of Grand Strand homes in 2008 posted their steepest declines in at least 15 years.

Average selling prices of single-family houses fell 5 percent from 2007 levels to $257,765, the first drop of more than a few hundred dollars since Tom Maeser, market analyst for the Coastal Carolinas Association of Realtors, started compiling the data in 1993.

Condo prices fell 23 percent year-over-year to $207,557, according to the data, which come from the association’s Multiple Listing Service. The MLS captures about 80 percent of homes on the market in Horry and Georgetown counties and parts of southern Brunswick County, N.C.
