Main Street Project Still Fishing For Major Tenant

The credit crisis has hampered but not stalled efforts to sign a major tenant at the $40 million development taking shape at Main and Broad streets, where new agreements approved by City Council bring the total taxpayer stake in the project to $1.2 million.

Bo Aughtry, a principal with the development firm Windsor/Aughtry Co. Inc., said Thursday the project should be completed in about 11 months and that office tenants could move in as early as next fall.

Unlike some of downtown’s stalled development projects, Aughtry said his financing was lined up before the credit crisis spooked major lenders, but the meltdown has hurt his ability to sign a major financial institution as a tenant.
