How the Ingleside Development Deal Came Together

In an economy that has stalled most development activity, a German auto parts manufacturer has joined with a developer to lay the groundwork for a 450-acre commercial project in North Charleston.

Weber USA, the real estate holding company for Weber Automotive, announced plans in November to transform two sections of its 1,800-acre Ingleside Plantation into 3.6 million square feet of office, retail, restaurant, hotel and condominium space over 20 to 25 years.

The project is part big-box center, part new urban core, part high-end and overall “something very different for Charleston,” said developer Richard Weiser, president of The Weiser Cos., which developed the Centre Pointe project in North Charleston.
