Grand Strand Building Stays Down In the Dumps

If building permit levels continue at their current pace, this year could wind up being the slowest for Grand Strand home construction since 1994, according to information from the N.C. research firm Market Opportunity Research Enterprises.

About 2,044 new home construction permits have been issued in Horry and Georgetown counties this year through September, said MORE President Bernard Helm.

Unless there’s a surge in construction this quarter – which isn’t likely during winter months, Helm said – that’s on pace to be fewer than in any year since 1994, when there were 2,356 permits issued to build new condos, single-family houses and townhouses.
