A public hearing on a proposed Lowe’s store in Clemson is set for 6 p.m. Monday in the City Council chamber at City Hall.

At issue is a proposed zoning change for the store that is planned on a 19.5-acre site on Issaqueena Trail at the intersection of U.S. 123.

The proposed zoning change would allow for construction of a 111,348-square-foot home-improvement center, for a total of 137,916 square-feet including a garden center.

The proposed ordinance also establishes requirements for buffers between the development and U.S. 123, architectural standards for all proposed improvements, restrictions on allowable uses of outparcels, hours of operation and lighting, and includes road improvements to better accommodate the flow of traffic.

All have been issues in previous meetings, and the developers have said they want to work with the public to make the development an asset for the city.

Having reviewed the development plan prepared by Paramount Development, I would like to wish them good luck on Monday. They have certainly made plenty of effort to appease the local opposition.
