While some developers are struggling to pay their bills and keep existing projects afloat, a North Carolina developer is pushing ahead with plans for a new 613-home subdivision in Berkeley County.

Steve Myers of Concord, N.C., is planning the homes on a 375-acre tract located at the intersection of Pimlico Boulevard and British Drive in Moncks Corner. Myers is seeking to rezone the land for the project, called Charleston at Pimlico.

“We’re looking ahead to the future,” Myers said. “That’s going to be a growing area.”

Myers purchased the land, of which 207 acres are upland, earlier this year. He said he won’t move forward with construction of homes, which he plans to be in the $200,000-$300,000 range, until the real estate market picks back up; he is taking advantage of the slowdown to get permitting and zoning in order.
