Demolition of the Waccamaw Square Outlet shopping center is expected to start within the 30 days, the owner said, almost six months after the complex was damaged in a blaze.

The city of Conway issued a permit this month to tear down everything in the complex on Church Street except the Big Lots, which was not damaged by fire, said Conway building official Billy Sawyer.

The permit is valid for six months, Sawyer said.

The stores damaged by the fire in May were Panda China Buffet, First American Cash Advance, M&M Tax Service, AJA Fashion and Burke’s Outlet.

Jim Goldsmith, president of the company that owns the property – Gator Investments of Miami Beach, Fla. – said plans are being developed for a new shopping center that will go there.
