When Donna Henderson moves into her apartment at The Cascades at Verdae, she won’t have to leave the building to buy groceries, go to a bank, or go to a movie theater.

The Cascades, one of the first developments on the 1,100-acre Verdae development, has those and other amenities on site.

Some are already experiencing that luxury. The Cascades, a continuing care retirement community off Old Sulphur Springs Road that officially opened Monday, already has 40 residents.

Along with the 52,000-square-foot clubhouse, two of the five planned independent apartment communities and cottages are open in The Cascades.

Richard Finn, executive director of The Cascades, said the next three apartment buildings would open over the next three to four months. The health-care center, which houses the community’s assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing areas, is slated to open in the spring.
