The Orangeburg County Development Commission and Orangeburg County Council have scheduled an economic development summit for Nov. 12.

OCDC Executive Director Gregg Robinson says the summit demonstrates council’s priority on economic development. “If we talk the talk, we have to walk the walk.”

Robinson hopes the summit, the county’s second in the past three years and third since 1995, will be the catalyst to put feet on the proverbial “sleeping giant” that is Orangeburg County.

“We got a call,” Robinson said. “How are we going to answer it? Are we going to answer it with infrastructure that is needed? Are we going to answer it in the ability to deliver rail … and intermodal connectivity globally?”

The 2008 Orangeburg County Economic Development Summit will be held at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The theme is “Going Global, Acting Local, Coming to the Table — Vision 2020.”

The event is expected to draw a couple hundred.
