Regal Entertainment Group’s plans for an IMAX conversion of a screen at the Hollywood 20 on Woodruff Road likely won’t take place until next year.

IMAX Corp. had said the Greenville screen would open this fall.

Richard Grover, Regal’s director of marketing and communications, said via e-mail, “We do intend to bring the IMAX experience. The project has been slated for 2009, but we do not have further details at this time.

The nearest IMAX theater to Greenville is in Charlotte, and the only one in South Carolina is in Myrtle Beach, according to the IMAX Web site.

Grover said the new IMAX auditorium would showcase films digitally re-mastered for use on the IMAX screen that is slightly curved and moved closer to the audience.
