A developer of the historic Williams-Earle home site on Grove Road presented a revised plan for 39, single-family homes to cost about $500,000 to neighbors Wednesday evening at the YWCA on Augusta Street.

Jean M. Pool, Greenville’s planning and development manager, said the public could give input when the Planning Commission acts on the plan Nov. 13. An initial proposal for 67 townhomes had drawn fire from neighboring residents.

James A. Jordan, who lives at Swansgate next door to the proposed development, said, “You’re darn tootin’ my property values will go up because 39 one-half million dollar houses will be built next door.”

A few of the 50 people in attendance expressed concern about additional traffic being put onto Grove Road, but developer Wendell L. Hawkins said he wouldn’t do a traffic study because one isn’t required by the city.

Resident Jim Ellis said the project would be “an economic boon for businesses,” and since there are only 39 units, “I think the traffic is a non-issue.”
