Clemson Lowe’s Rezoning Request Set for Monday Night

A formal request to rezone a 20-acre site on Issaqueena Trail to construct a Lowe’s will be presented to the Clemson Planning Commission on Monday night as an advisory item.

The applicant, Paramount Development Corporation, is seeking to rezone a previously planned development on Issaqueena Trail at Tramlaw Court in Clemson. While original plans called for a total of 157,000 square feet on property currently zoned for only 100,000 square feet, officials are seeking a commercial planned development that would allow construction of a single building facility totaling 111,348 square feet and 137,916 including the store’s garden department.

The 20 acres on which Lowe’s officials are seeking to build is more than six times the 3.3 acres once sought by Wal-Mart in the area just north of the U.S. Highway 123 interchange. A similar effort to locate a Wal-Mart Supercenter at that site several years ago met with heated opposition from residents and city officials, resulting in store officials eventually withdrawing their plans and relocating to Central.
