Heavy-duty truck manufacturer Daimler Trucks North America has bought a large tract of land in York County.

The company purchased 396 undeveloped acres along Lake Wylie near Allison Creek Road on Aug. 7. The property was sold by the Allison Creek Partnership.

Daimler — which in January changed its name from Freightliner — plans to build a 200,000-square-foot office on the site, according to a prepared statement.

The Portland, Ore.-based company plans to move to the new building employees who now work in the Koll Intellicenter Building on Deerfield Drive in Fort Mill, the statement said.

The company expects to begin construction by late 2009.

Daimler Trucks North America is the largest heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America and a leading producer of medium-duty trucks and specialized commercial vehicles.
