New Development Proposed To Have Hotel, 125 Townhomes and Commercial Space

Developers are circling the traffic circle in Wescott Plantation.

A 27-acre tract at the juncture of Wescott Boulevard, Oak Forest Boulevard and Wescott Club Drive soon could have more than trees sprouting up next to the golf course and nearby subdivisions.

Developers want to build a 120-room hotel, 140,000 square feet of commercial and office space and 125 housing units on four parcels surrounding the traffic circle. The development would be called Wescott Plantation Circle.

The plan calls for a pedestrian- friendly, small-town setting with parking behind busi- nesses. Townhomes would be built beside existing neighborhoods and the Golf Club at Wescott Plantation. A 50-foot tree buffer would remain between the development and Oak Forest subdivision.

“We wanted to come up with a plan that beautified all of it,” said Steve Dudash of DesignWorks of Charleston, who is working with developer, Wescott Property LLC.

The property is zoned for general business use, which allows almost any type of business in North Charleston. The developer wants to create a planned development district and has agreed to limit business uses that some of the neighbors objected to, including a gas station, bakery and mortuary.
