Midlands builders are still struggling with an oversaturated market.

Building permits were down 43 percent in August compared to the same month in 2007 in Richland, Lexington and Kershaw counties and the city of Columbia and town of Lexington, a new report shows.

Builders took out 218 fewer permits in those areas in August for new homes, according to the report released today by the Home Builders Association of Greater Columbia.

Permits are down year-to-date 35 percent compared to 2007.
