Harrison Bridge Plan Gets Simpsonville Council OK

The city’s planning commission had unanimously recommended denial of the Harrison Park planned development amid concerns about traffic congestion and “highway commercial” on a two-lane road.

The developer, Land Development Holdings, submitted new plans that showed only office space at the frontage along Harrison Bridge Road.

The developer also received approval for gravity sewer connections rather than putting in a pump station and dropped a request to turn Hipps Road into a one-lane street.

Land Development Holdings wants to build 177 houses on 59 acres west of Fairview Road.

The city’s planning director, David Dyrhaug, said he had concerns that the development would contribute to Harrison Bridge Road’s traffic problems. At peak hours, he said, the road could have “failing segments,” especially at Fairview Road.
