Georgetown County Building Permits Remain At Steady Rate

August 19, 2008

The number of building permits Georgetown County issued for new construction remained steady in June, according to figures recently released by the county’s planning department.

The county issued 51 new construction permits in June, the same number as in May. That included 16 permits for single-family construction, 25 for mobile home construction and 10 for commercial/non-residential construction.

The number of building permits has been down as the number of real estate sales has slumped. There were 712 permits issued last year compared with 963 building permits in 2006 and 1,142 in 2005. The permits are needed before construction begins on commercial and residential buildings, and they’re one way analysts gauge the market’s health.
