Developer to Start Hanahan Warehouse Project

August 12, 2008

Staff report – Charleston Post and Courier

An Indiana developer said it plans to break ground this week on the first of two planned speculative distribution centers at North Pointe Industrial Park in Hanahan.

Lauth Property Group said its initial 390,180-square-foot structure is expected to be ready for occupancy in the first quarter of 2009. A second building would be slightly larger at 399,732 square feet. Its construction is set to begin following the completion of the first warehouse or as needed on a build-to-suit basis.

The ground breaking is set for Thursday at the property, which is off North Rhett Avenue.

Indianapolis-based Lauth joins a growing roster of real estate investors betting that a new shipping terminal the State Ports Authority is building at the former Navy base in North Charleston will stoke demand for modernized industrial space with high ceilings, plenty of loading dock space and other amenities.

The North Pointe project is Lauth’s first development venture in the Lowcountry.
