A Virginia company plans to spend more than $160 million building an ethanol plant in the Union County community of Carlisle.

Osage Bio Energy LLC of Glen Allen, Va., said Tuesday it would start building the 75-worker plant around the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

The plant — one of four ethanol plants planned by the company — is expected to open at the beginning of 2011. The plant intends to pay its process technicians between $15 and $25 an hour, said John Warren, a spokesman for Osage Bio Energy.

Warren said the ethanol plant would be built next to a Carlisle Finishing textile plant and would buy steam generated by the textile plant and also use the textile plant’s rail switch.
