The feel of shopping in an old world European market can now be experienced under a new roof.

That’s because The Fresh Market opens at 9 a.m. today in its new, more than 20,000-square-foot home at 27 S. Pleasantburg Drive.

Sean Crane, senior vice president of operations for The Fresh Market, said the new Greenville store is not just larger in size, its offerings have expanded as well.

The store has more varieties in its frozen, grocery, cheese, meat, seafood, bakery and dairy departments, Crane said.

Additions can also be found within the store’s selection of prepared foods and produce, he said.
Based in Greensboro, N.C., The Fresh Market also serves customers with an old style butcher shop, a delicatessen, coffee, floral, and other departments.

The Greenville store has been in operation since 1985. It has relocated from its site on East North Street to anchor the Forest Park neighborhood center.

Columbia-based Edens & Avant developed Forest Park, a new 53,714 -square-foot retail center near the intersection of Pleasantburg Drive, Antrim Drive, and Laurens Road.

“We’re real excited about the new location. We think it will be very convenient to the broader Greenville market,” Crane said.
