Visitors to Greenville will have their choice of two Hilton-brand hotels in The Point development off Woodruff Road.

Homewood Suites by Hilton just opened there at 102 Carolina Point Parkway and construction is under way next to it for a Hilton Garden Inn.

The 120-room Garden Inn being developed by Deean Hospitality LLC is expected to open in summer 2009, according to Yatish Patel, managing partner.

Hilton Hotels Corp. has more than 3,000 hotels and 500,000 rooms in 74 countries. The company owns, manages or franchises brands that include Hilton, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Doubletree, Embassy Suites Hotels, Hampton Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites, Hilton Grand Vacations and The Waldorf-Astoria Collection, as well as Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites by Hilton.

According to Smith Travel Research statistics compiled for the Greenville Convention Visitors Bureau, Greenville County had an inventory of nearly 8,000 rooms and 76 hotel/motel properties as of January.

The area’s 2007 annual average occupancy was 62 percent.

There are 110 suites in Greenville’s first Homewood Suites, a residential-style hotel.

Sue Jernigan, general manager of Homewood Suites, said in a statement that, “We continue to see strong demand in the extended-stay hotel segment and feel this property helps to fill a need in the Greenville metro area.”

Homewood Suites Greenville has a swimming pool, sports court and two meeting rooms with a total of 1,000 square feet.

Greenville’s first Garden Inn will be six stories high and feature a full service restaurant and lounge, Patel said.

It will also have 4,000 square feet of meeting space, wireless Internet service, room service, an exercise room, business center, an executive board room, a pool and a hot tub, Patel said.
