City officials and downtown business owners hope a ceremonial ribbon cutting held at Library Commons on Thursday signals that more energy and people will be drawn to Spartanburg’s emerging downtown.

The $10 million project features 48 condominiums priced between $181,500 and $315,500. It is the third project for Revitalization Associates LLC, a group of investors comprising Mayor Bill Barnet, George Dean Johnson, Tom Hannah and Kurt Zimmerli. The group invests in real estate that it hopes will have a dramatic, positive impact on the city.

Seven units have been reserved so far and retailers for the first floor haven’t been announced. Coldwell Banker Caine is managing Library Commons sales and marketing and conducted tours of the one- and two-bedroom residences Thursday. All condos have private patios or balconies with access to a gated, private parking garage. The condos range from 746 to 1,278 square feet.

“I’ve always felt that one of the tipping points for our central business district would be when people live downtown,” Barnet said. “With that, more will come and have confidence in investing in coffee shops, restaurants and retail.”
